At an Archive Group meeting in 2016 a proposal was made that we plant some memorial trees. This idea grew into that of a community memorial wood.
Norfolk County Council was approached, by the Archive Group, regarding obtaining a small piece of land for this. Conversations with them proved fruitless. Alan and Jean Cooke offered a piece of their land and transfer of the ownership of the land (1.25 acres) was made to Thurne Parish Council by the end of 2018.
It was proposed and agreed at the Thurne Parish Council Meeting on 6th September 2018 that a management committee be set up to plan the planting of the trees and manage the wood now and for posterity. The area was fenced with protective netting and hedging planted between September 2018 and February 2019.
The management committee can be contacted via the Parish Clerk.
